Why We Started Coddled Critters
Coddled Critters was built from a lifelong connection to animals. I’m Erin Deschaine, and I grew up in rural Massachusetts, raised by a single father. I spent a lot of time on my own—and my German Shepherd, Bo, became my constant companion. He wasn’t just a pet; he was my world. That experience shaped how I’ve always viewed pet care: animals aren’t just pets, they’re family.
After high school, I pursued a degree in engineering and built a career in aviation. At 18, I got my own dog—a toy poodle—and quickly fell in love with the breed. My career eventually took me around the world, and I brought my dog with me whenever possible. One of the most difficult experiences I faced was during a move to England, when he had to spend six months in quarantine. Seeing the conditions he endured was heartbreaking—and it changed me. I knew there had to be a better way to care for pets when their owners couldn’t be with them.
After 12 years in engineering, I followed that calling. In 2009, I opened Coddled Critters with a simple goal: to create a safe, clean, and truly caring environment where pets feel comfortable and owners feel confident leaving them.
Today, that mission shows up in everything we do—from structured, supervised daycare playgroups and enrichment tailored to each dog’s individual needs, to low-stress cat boarding with private condos, and grooming services focused on comfort and care. Our team is trained to prioritize safety, proper group matching, and close supervision, while also providing the kind of attention and affection that helps every pet feel at home.

James has worked in the animal care industry for over a decade, primarily focusing on the care of dogs. As the manager of the entire team, he stepped into the position during a critical time and immediately rose to the challenge. Through his strong leadership, exceptional team-building abilities, and tireless work ethic, he has become an essential part of the organization. No other profession he has experienced has been as rewarding or fulfilling. Working with animals of all different temperaments and learning their unique personalities has remained one of his greatest passions.
Jaisie
Jaisie’s favorite part about working with dogs is getting to see all their different personalities and how they interact with one another. She loves earning a dog’s trust and watching them slowly open up and feel comfortable around her. Being able to build that bond and create a sense of safety for them is one of the most rewarding parts of her work. Dogs also never judge her for being a little too weird, which makes every day more enjoyable. Jaisie has an unmatched work ethic and is incredibly reliable, loyal, and detail-oriented.
Sydney
Sydney began her journey in professional dog grooming nearly five years ago, driven by a lifelong love for dogs and a desire to provide them with the highest level of care. Her work allows her to combine her artistic creativity with her passion for animal wellness, ensuring every dog leaves not only looking beautiful but feeling their absolute best. She truly loves what she does because it gives her the opportunity to build trust with each pet and help them feel comfortable, safe, and pampered throughout the entire grooming process. Amber
Amber has been an animal person her entire life, from caring for family pets to gaining the trust of dogs that would not let anyone near them, and even catching wild rabbits in the neighborhood. She enjoys working with both people and their pets because they share the same goal of providing the best care possible. He is also very passionate about breed preservation and has a deep appreciation for purebred dogs in general. He is amazing at managing the many different personalities that come through the doors and has a natural ability to connect with the dogs in his care.
